SARASOTA, Fla. (WWSB) – Project Pride SRQ and Equality Florida will be hosting a rally in Sarasota this week to protest Florida’s ‘Don’t Say Gay’ bill.
The controversial bill is currently being considered by the Florida Legislature and would ban discussions of sexual orientation and gender identity in schools.
The “Emergency Say Gay” rally from 12:30 to 1:30 p.m. this Sunday, Feb. 27, at the John Ringling Bridge in downtown Sarasota. A 700-foot pride flag will be displayed at the Ringling Bridge.
Earlier this week, an amendment to the bill that would have required teachers to notify parents and schools within six weeks of a student disclosing their sexual orientation, unless abuse or abandonment was suspected in the home.
