Hawaiʻi Island Lane Closures: Week Of March 28 | KWXX – Hilo, HI

The Department of Transportation has announced a number of lane closures throughout Hawaiʻi Island during the week of March 28.  Lane closure schedules may change at any time without further notice.  Below is a detailed list of scheduled roadwork and maintenance:

KUAKINI HIGHWAY (ROUTE 11) 

HONAUNAU (WEEKEND/WEEKLY WORK)

Single lane closure on Kuakini Highway (Route 11) possible in either direction between mile markers 104 and 106, Tobacco Road and Middle Keei Road, through Friday, April 1, from 8:30 a.m. to 2:30 p.m., for mulching and mowing.

 — MAMALAHOA HIGHWAY (ROUTE 11) 

1) KEAAU TO KURTISTOWN (WEEKEND/WEEKLY WORK)

Single lane closure on Mamalahoa Highway (Route 11) possible in either direction between mile markers 8 and 10, Volcano Road and 9 ½ mile Cp, through Monday, March 28, from 8:30 a.m. to 2:30 p.m., for grass cutting.

MOUNTAIN VIEW (WEEKEND/WEEKLY WORK)

Single lane closure on Mamalahoa Highway (Route 11) possible in either direction between mile markers 21 and 22, Volcano Road and Omeka Road, through Friday, April 1, from 8:30 a.m. to 2:30 p.m., for mulching and grass cutting.

HONAUNAU (WEEKEND/WEEKLY WORK)

Single lane closure on Mamalahoa Highway (Route 11) possible in either direction between mile markers 85 and 86, Old Mamalahoa Highway and Ohana Road, through Friday, April 1, from 8:30 a.m. to 2:30 p.m., for grass cutting.

— HAWAII BELT ROAD (ROUTE 19) 

HILO

Right lane closure on Hawaii Belt Road (Route 19) in the northbound direction near mile marker 2.5, Shipman Street and Wailuku Drive, on Monday, March 28 through Friday, April 1, from 8:30 a.m. to 3 p.m., for Wailuku Stream Bridge repair work.

HAKALAU (WEEKEND/WEEKLY WORK)

Single lane closure on Hawaii Belt Road (Route 19) possible in either direction near mile marker 13.8, near Kolekole Beach Park, through Friday, April 1, from 7 a.m. to 5 p.m., for bridge repair work. 

HONOMU (24/7 RESTRICTION)

Kolekole Bridge at mile marker 14.27 on Hawaii Belt Road (Route 19) is weight restricted to 12 tons (24,000 lbs.) until further notice. The speed limit in the area is reduced to 25 mph. See https://hidot.hawaii.gov/highways/weight-limit-for-kolekole-bridge-now-12-tons/ for details.

HONOMU

Right lane closure on Hawaii Belt Road (Route 19) in the southbound direction near mile marker 15.4, Old Mamalahoa Highway, on Monday, March 28 through Friday, April 1, from 8:30 a.m. to 3 p.m., for Hakalau Stream Bridge rehabilitation and testing.

NINOLE (WEEKEND/WEEKLY WORK)

Single lane closure on Hawaii Belt Road (Route 19) possible in either direction between mile markers 20 and 21, Poupou Stream and Hawaii Belt Road, through Monday, March 28, from 8:30 a.m. to 2:30 p.m., for tree trimming and shoulder work. 

PAPAALOA

Single lane closure on Hawaii Belt Road (Route 19) possible in either direction between mile markers 23 and 24, Hawaii Belt Road and Papaa Loa Road, on Tuesday, March 29 through Friday, April 1, from 8:30 a.m. to 2:30 p.m., for tree trimming and shoulder work. 

 LAUPAHOEHOE

Single lane closure on Hawaii Belt Road (Route 19) possible in either direction between mile markers 24 and 26, Papaa Loa Road and Hawaii Belt Road, on Tuesday, March 29 through Friday, April 1, from 8:30 a.m. to 2:30 p.m., for grass cutting. 

OOKALA (WEEKEND/WEEKLY WORK)

Single lane closure on Hawaii Belt Road (Route 19) possible in either direction between mile markers 28 and 29.4, Kaawalii Stream and Niu Village Road, through Monday, March 28, from 8:30 a.m. to 2:30 p.m., for grass cutting. 

PAHOA-KALAPANA ROAD (ROUTE 130) 

PAHOA

Single lane closure on Pahoa-Kalapana Road (Route 130) possible in either direction between mile markers 0.0 and 3, Hawaii Belt Road and Keaau-Pahoa Road, on Monday, March 28 through Friday, April 1, from 8:30 a.m. to 3 p.m., for installation of new traffic signal indicators.

PAHOA

Single lane closure on Pahoa-Kalapana Road (Route 130) possible in either direction near mile marker 15.4, Alaili Road, on Monday, March 28 through Friday, April 1, from 8:30 a.m. to 5:30 p.m., for pavement and guardrail improvements.

 MAMALAHOA HIGHWAY (ROUTE 190) 

KAMUELA (WEEKEND/WEEKLY WORK)

Single lane closure on Mamalahoa Highway (Route 190) possible in either direction between mile markers 3 and 4, near Saddle Road, through Friday, April 1, from 8:30 a.m. to 2:30 p.m., for landscaping and shoulder work.

KAMUELA

Single lane closure on Mamalahoa Highway (Route 190) possible in either direction between mile markers 3.9 and 6.9, Saddle Road and Cross Island Road, on Monday, March 28 through Friday, April 1, from 8:30 a.m. to 3 p.m., for shoulder widening, installation of rumble strips and other safety improvements.

AKONI PULE HIGHWAY (ROUTE 270) 

HAWI (WEEKEND/WEEKLY WORK)

Single lane closure on Akoni Pule Highway (Route 270) in both directions between mile markers 10 and 19, Kaiholena Place and Ilina Road, through Monday, March 28, from 8:30 a.m. to 2:30 p.m. for landscaping and shoulder work.
