Bradford K. Legere, 81

1940 – 2022

Georgetown – Bradford Keith Legere, 81, passed away on March 23, 2022 after a brief illness. Born April 5, 1940 in Swampscott, MA, Brad was the son of the late Verny Legere and Dorothy (Porter) Legere.

Brad married the love of his life, Frances (Pudge) MacDonald on October 16, 1959. Ten years later they moved their young family from Lynn, MA to Georgetown, MA where Brad was soon enamored by the local volunteer fire department that was located only 4 houses down from their new residence on North Street. Brad quickly became entrenched in the life of a volunteer firefighter and was an active member of the Erie 4 Fire Association up until his death. Brad had many hobbies.

During the spring and summer months, Brad could be found outside in his yard planting, weeding or riding his John Deere. During the cooler months he would be down in his cellar tinkering with his HO scale railroad layout where he laid the track, hand-built the houses, shrubs and trees, and enjoyed naming different sections of track after his three grandchildren.

Many local folks know Brad for the beautiful Clydesdale rocking horses he handmade in his garage woodshop and would then sell from his front lawn or at local craft fairs. His love of woodworking inspired him and his late son, Michael, to handcraft together the gorgeous raised-panel cherry cabinets that adorn his and Pudge’s kitchen today. Whether it’s the Bruins, Celts, Sox or Pats, Brad loved his Boston sports teams. But what he really enjoyed doing most was spending time with his dearly loved grandchildren.

Brad and Pudge had two favorite places to travel: Hawaii where they traveled to 8 times and Pennsylvania’s Amish Country where they spent many summers. A graduate of Essex Aggie specializing in animal husbandry, Brad actually found his career in the business world where he spent many years as a purchasing manager for Adage, Inc. and then as a purchasing manager/agent at Kronos, Inc. from where he retired in 2006.

Brad leaves behind his loving wife of 62 years, Frances (MacDonald) Legere; daughter Dianne Newton and her husband Bob; son, Steven Legere and his wife Melissa. Brad is predeceased by his oldest son, Michael Legere. He also leaves behind his brothers, Lenny and David and is predeceased by his sister, Karen (Legere) Wagner. And he leaves behind the absolute lights of his life, grandson Bradford Newton and granddaughters Erika Newton and Emily Legere.

Service Information: Family and friends are kindly invited to Brad’s Funeral Service on Friday morning, April 1st at 11 o’clock in the Conte – Giamberardino Funeral Home, 14 Pleasant Street, Georgetown. Visitation will be on Thursday, March 31st from 4 to 8 pm in the funeral home. Interment at Harmony Cemetery will be private. For those who wish, Brad may be remembered through donations to The Erie 4 Fire Association, 474 North Street, Georgetown, MA 01833 or Dana-Farber Cancer Institute, 450 Brookline Avenue, Boston, MA 02215.
